With the outbreak of the novel coronavirus, it has become important for each one of us to wash hands and maintain social distance by avoiding large gatherings and close contact with people, these are the two of the easiest ways to prevent the spread of Covid-19, say, health officials.
Till now, nearly 1580 confirmed cases of coronavirus have been reported in India, with fourth seven deaths due to the virus's fatal nature. 1. Don’t touch anything without washing your hands
In order to eliminate all traces of the virus on your hands, a scrub is a must but a quick wash won’t cut it. You need to follow the below given step-by-step process for effective hand washing.
Step 1: You need to wet hands with running water.
Step 2: After that, you need to apply enough soap to cover wet hands.
Step 3: Now you need to scrub all surfaces of the hands including the back of hands, between fingers and under nails for at least 20 seconds (or about the time it takes to sing Happy Birthday twice).
Step 4: After a scrub, you need to rinse thoroughly with running water.
Step 5: At last you need to dry your hands with a clean cloth or single-use towel.

You can even use an antibacterial and antiviral soap to wash hands. Rewash your hands several times a day, especially after touching anything including your phone or laptop.
2. Leave your bag, wallet, keys etc in a box at the entry of your home
If you are entering your home from outside then it’s better to leave your bag, wallet, keys etc in a box at the entry of your home. All those items are exposed outside, it may carry the virus. So it’s better to drop all those items at a safe place and later you can sanitize them one by one.
Don’t forget to use a diluted household bleach solution, or an alcohol-based solution with at least 70 per cent alcohol. The Environmental Protection Agency has shared a list of cleaning products that meet its criteria for use against the 2019 novel coronavirus.

3. Remove and wash your clothes immediately
It is a good idea to change and wash your clothes regularly and especially if you’ve just come back home from the outside. According to the CDC, one should use the warmest appropriate water setting for your clothes and drying them completely. (And save the shaking for when your laundry is clean, as it could potentially disperse germs from clothes when they’re dirty.)
4. Clean/disinfect all the bags you bought from outside
It is not certain how long the virus that causes COVID-19 survives on surfaces, but studies suggest that coronaviruses may persist on surfaces for a few hours or up to several days. This may vary under different conditions (e.g. type of surface, temperature or humidity of the environment).
So it better to clean or disinfect all the bags you bought from outside, doing so will help you to kill the virus and protect yourself and others.
5. Disinfect your pet’s paws if you took them for a walk
The World Health Organization currently advises that there is no evidence to suggest that dogs or cats can be infected with the new coronavirus. But keeping the current situation in mind, if you took your pet out for a walk then you should disinfect your pet’s paws because the virus might not affect them but it can affect you and your family members. The CDC also stated that at this time, there is no evidence that companion animals including pets can spread COVID-19.
6. Have a shower if you can’t wash all exposed areas
You may have come across a phrase, 'prevention is better than cure.'
Take shower if you can’t wash all exposed areas because surfaces and can pick up viruses. Once contaminated, that area can transfer the virus to anywhere, it can be your hands, eyes, nose or mouth. From there, the virus can enter your body and can make you sick.
7. Clean your phone, specs, sunglasses with alcohol-based disinfection
As per the studies, the virus can survive on surfaces from a few hours to over a week, depending on conditions. The device you handle constantly and often touch or press to the side of your face, any bacteria, virus or other germs can make its way and could easily transfer to your skin.
Use disinfectant wipes that contain 70 per cent isopropyl alcohol to clean your phone screen, specs or sunglasses.
